When the kids got there they were given hats & aprons and a short run-down on proper kitchen and food handling etiquette. (Terry would have loved this)
Then they had all the kids wash their hands and told them "be sure to keep your hands out of your mouth from this point on." Whatever. Have you ever met Abby?
The first event was "scoring" their own bread. A funny side note to this - in the description of the class, it said that the kids would score their own bread. I'm thinking of it in terms of - "sweet, we scored some free bread!" Well, Ashley, who had just finished a pottery class where they "score" the clay, said, "um, mom, I think they mean we actually score the bread like with a knife." Oh. Anyway, we still scored it and got to bring it home in the end.
The kids receiving instructions on how to properly score bread:
Let the scoring begin:
Ashley was very careful and precise in her scoring. (surprise, surprise)
Abby was, um, not so much. Her motto was - the more the better.
We then put the bread in the oven to cook and took a tour of the rest of the kitchen. (Ter - you'd be glad to know the soup lasts no more than a day. No day 8 leftovers here)
Charlie lasted about 10 minutes into the tour. He was about as thrilled with Panera as my brother-in-law Ian is. Not sure how he married into the family without meeting the criteria. :)
We came away with hats, aprons, milk boxes, cookies (6 per kid!), and bread. SCORE!
